Remember when Disney was all like ‘fuck how races work and homogeneous casts and couples’?

Black and white couple produce fillipino-american child. White dude is the valet. White step mother, one white step sister, one black step sister. Just a jumble, and it ought to happen again.

Some facts from imdb:

First multi-racial cast performing Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

Whitney Houston was producing Rodger and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” and was to star in it until she decided that Brandy Norwood would make a better Cinderella. Brandy would not do it unless her idol Whitney took the Fairy Godmother role.

Brandy Norwood became the first African-American to play Cinderella. This version broke viewer-ship records when it debuted, and it holds the record for the bestselling video for a made for TV movie.

So fuck any noise where people say audiences don’t want to see a mixed race couple, or more people of color. This was a success from television. I still remember Brandy singing Impossible.

That ought to happen again. Mixed race live action cast where the relationships don’t made genetic or racial sense.

This is still one of my favourite movies :D

It’s a shame they never worked out releasing a legit soundtrack

The Australian cast of Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ musical sings the intro song ‘Circle of Life’ on board a local flight to Brisbane.

The original ‘Circle of Life’ song was composed by Elton John with English lyrics penned by Tim Rice and the opening Zulu vocals performed by South African artist Lebohang “Lebo M” Morake.

I’ve often heard people say that they didn’t think the Zulu portion of the song was an actual language, leading most people to chant whatever sounds they believed themselves to be hearing. Here’s the actual Zulu lyrics with English translations to clear things up:

Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba [Here comes a lion, Father]
Sithi uhm ingonyama [Oh yes, it's a lion]

Nants ingonyama bagithi baba
Sithi uhhmm ingonyama
Ingonyama

Siyo Nqoba [We're going to conquer]
Ingonyama
Ingonyama nengw' enamabala [A lion and a leopard come to this open place]

The Lion King was released in 1994 and was the 32 animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series. The film is the highest-grossing hand-drawn film in history, the highest-grossing 2D animated film in the United States and the 19th-highest-grossing feature film of all time.

The musical stage adaptation, which premiered in Minneapolis, Minnesota in July 1997 and in October of the same year on Broadway, is the fourth longest-running show and highest grossing Broadway production in history - and it still runs to this day.
